New Challenge and Goal for the future...Who'll join me?
I really want to run in the New York City Marathon. I am giving myself till 2010. For you experienced runners do you think I would have to train longer? Let's here your thoughts and see who is joining me?

That was my goal before I turn 50... I'm not sure I can do it without totally injuring my legs. I would cheer you on! You can start training 6 months prior to the marathon and be able to do it (if you were totally serious)... having two years, you'll be fine!
I would do a half-marathon, but I know myself and there is NO WAY I am getting up at 4 am and jogging for 3 hours just to TRAIN for something (which is what people do who train for marathons).
okay now you're all scaring the crap out of me...scott just emailed me an article of a guy who died after the marathon. scott maybe you could post that here. Should i change my goal to a half marathon...now i feel like a loser...lol.l
Annette, You CAN do a marathon, if you commit to it. It will take a lot of dedication-- you'll have to do a "long" run at least once a week and that would get to at least 20 miles. Don't quote me on this, but I believe you never "practice" more than 20 before the marathon.... beginners that is. I'll email Joelle.
I think it's a great goal and definitely do-able! I would suggest starting out with a half marathon maybe next year or within the next 6 months. I will tell you that it's alot of work. Somewhat like having a part-time job so be sure to not have alot of other things planned for the training period. I used hal higdon's beginners training schedule, it's very easy to follow. Email me and we can talk more... jcbelle02@yahoo.com
