Have you ever had so much to say, so much happen that you decide to just not say anything at all? That is how I feel about the past month or so. So many things have happened that it is almost overwhelming to try and sit down and put it into words. I will tell you that I have learned a lot, lost a lot, and loved a lot through it all. Its almost hard to believe that all this sh*t happened in one crazy long unforgiving month. Will I share...absolutely...but not all at once - and when I am ready. :)
Speaking of all of this...life is a roller coaster-how do you hold on? I have found that as much as it was hard to get used to, my tried and true is the running. Nothing I have ever done has made me feel so good afterwards...with that,I will go into the next part of this very long blog entry.
I recently tried a new doctor in St. James and with going to a new doctor they do a full physical. One in which I haven't had done in many, many years. Heck, I am not sure I really ever had a "real" full-blown physical ever! So during this the doctor decided to put a Holter monitor on me during a 24 hour period. Apparently, something he does with people in my AGE GROUP?!(What the f&*^!?) that are as active. Now, I am going to preface this with the fact that, yes, I have had a flutter or two in the past. I've always chalked it up to training, or nerves, or just a regular little flutter...ya know a flutter lol. Well apparently (I am hoping this doctor is overdramatic and yes- i have an appointment to get a second opinion already) i have somethign called..Superventricular tacharydia. Please someone tell me they have it or know someone that does?
Pretty much what it is is a type of heart beat rhythm disorder in which the heart beats faster than normal. This explains my fights with Scott that my heart monitor HAS to be broken. I recall a conversation with a friend when telling him what my rate was..."impossible, you would be dead"...nope not dead, not impossible just have that taharydia crap. There are a few symptoms of this which can explain a lot of things to me...but lets talk about the most important part of this. When I last spoke to the doctor he told me...no caffeine, no chocolate, and no running!#?! I mean come on that's ridiculous and a bit extreme don't you think? All joking aside I am currently in a bit of a slump, a funk, a bit depressed knowing that I can't do the running right now. I already had to cancel one race and I really don't want to cancel more. I might not be the fastest or the best runner but it certainly has become an everyday part of my life and I am NOT ready to give it up.
Obviously, I will follow my doctors orders but I am certainly getting a second opinion and I am going to a specialist upon doctors orders. After reading like a mad woman on line..there are levels of this...I am hoping I have the lowest of them and with maybe a heart monitor I can slow it down when it gets bad? Not sure how it all works, not sure about any of it. What I am sure of is I now know how important it is to me...and I really, really don't want to do without it. Stay tuned...
(p.s..just read on one site that I SHOULD do excercise...which i believe includes running. For my husbands hearts sake..I will wait till my appnt on Thursday :)

I would definitely get a second opinion; but I would also respect what the doctor told you for now. Did he offer alternative forms of exercise? I mean, he can't have prescribed NO exercise, right? Probably he told you to do something slower that you're not in to, am I right? :)
Listen, as we get older, "health" is all about learning what your body's limits are.... And the older we get, the more limits there are. That's why aging sucks. But being in GOOD health is respecting those limits while still pushing yourself in ways that reward you mentally and spiritually as well as physically. There may be a boulder in the road, but all you have to do is find a way around it, instead of trying to run through it. (Pun intended.)
You will find a solution. Just give it some time. And respect the doctor's orders (until you get new ones)!!!
I've heard of this... Danny and I both have an irregular heartbeat type thing. Mine is an arrhythmia, which was found during a physical exam as well. I had to go to a cardiologist and take a stress test and most likely other tests you had to take. Mine is not "serious".Here is what an arrhythmia is: "Heart rhythm problems (heart arrhythmias) occur when the electrical impulses in your heart that coordinate your heartbeats don't function properly, causing your heart to beat too fast, too slow or irregularly.
Heart arrhythmias (uh-RITH-me-uhs) are common and usually harmless. Most people have occasional, irregular heartbeats that may feel like a fluttering or racing heart."
That was from the mayo clinic... I also looked up tachycardia, which I'm sure you did as well.
"Some people with tachycardia have no symptoms, and the condition is only discovered during a physical examination or with a heart-monitoring test called an electrocardiogram."
Some of the causes of tachycardia were stated as:
"High blood pressure,Smoking, Heavy alcohol consumption, Heavy caffeine consumption"
I know you just recently started drinking coffee, that could have caused the difference, and high blood pressure runs in our family (yipee!)
Most likely if you stop the coffee/caffeine consumption, I doubt you'll have to stop the running... But definitely get a second opinion.
Maria- this guy was a bit rainmanish mixed with Dr. Fishkin..needless to say I'm still looking for a good, personable doctor. I am definitely not going to overdue anything until I see him...me no dummy lol.
I am with you every step of the way honey. We'll comply w/ what the Doctor's tell us, as will get to the root of this problem. And, we'll do it together. You have a load of love and support from me and the kids, as well as family and friends. Keep your head up. You'll be back to living the life you want in no time!!!
And, yes, thanks for thinking of my heart too.....lol
Please keep us posted.
