Lucky Stars

This past week we visited Disney World in Florida. It was 101 degrees the day we visited, we had two children under the age of 3 1/2 and...did I say it was hot? The big theme there is to "wish upon a star"... and throughout the day at times I do admit, I wished it was cooler, I wished I was on a beach sipping a Corona by myself-maybe getting a massage, I wished that the kids were not hot, I wished that I was not hot, Iwished that everyone in the world especially Disney "world" used deodorant.

Well everytime I started thinking one of these "wishes" I seemed to turn a corner and notice one of the "make a wish" children. These are terminally ill children that I am sure with all the hoopla, not many people notice. Disney is pretty much their last wish. When I worked at Disney, I had the opportunity to volunteer for the Make-a-Wish foundation and was truly touched by these kids and their families. It was amazing to see the strength these children had and how they continued to be cheerful and to keep a smile on their faces. At the same time it was heartbreaking to be able to see passed the smiles of the parents and into the fear they held in their eyes to wonder if this would be one of their last opportunities with their children.... Can you imagine?

The point of this post? We shouldn't always be wishing upon a star...instead we should stop, look around and start counting our lucky stars for what we DO have...

How often we forget how blessed we are. When you really think about it, a healthy child is truly a miracle.
