Is running really supposed to hurt so much?

Well I have been working out for over a month now. Changed a lot of my negative eating habits and overall have been feeling better. I do get more headaches and have had two terrible ones since I have been running. I ran three miles (on and off) yesterday and today on the treadmill. I am so sore its actually shocking. Am I supposed to be feeling like this? My back, near my should blades feel like I have been lifting for days...? Help a sister out and let me know if this is normal or if I should stop...does it get easier? Other people make it look so easy-I am hurtin' big time!

hmmmm......not being a runner, I am not too sure, but what I do know is that footwear is important!
So, let's go shopping and get you good running sneakers.
Hopefully Marie and/or Rocky can be of some assistance to you.
I am very proud of you for the effort you are making in both working out and becoming more healthy.

Oh yeah !! If it doesn't hurt it's not working.....keep up the good work !! Eventually you get used to it and it hurts less and less.

That's weird... I left a comment yesterday and now its gone.

The headaches are common, espeically with women, especially when you just start. They're called "impact" headaches. I used to get them all the time, but never do anymore.

You should not be hurting as much as you are. First of all, be very conscious about relaxing your shoulders when you run. I've seen you run, you hunch them toward your ears. Let them hang down as far away from your ears as possible.

But keep up the awesome work!!!! It will get easier!!!

Yeah, you run like a bulldozer. You need to relax your shoulders and your arms should swing freely and naturally at your side. Also, I hate to tell you this sis but we're old, which means you need to stretch, a lot. I stretch before and after, and sometimes during a long run. I also find that bananas, anything high in potassium, is great for relaxing sore muscles. Also, drink lots of water before and after. Finally get Scott to give you shoulder massages about three times a day. I'm sure he's willing to do that for you.
